Starting the hike from the Maple Spring dirt lot was a challenge as if you dont have a high clearance 4×4 you will need to start at the bottom. As for the hike it get steep fast and challenges you fast to get to the top of Modjeska Peak. Once you got up there the tract to Santiago was a breeze with a steady incline but not as steep. There was NO ONE on the trail as I was the only soul on this Thursday afternoon. The condition of the trail was nice except a small park after Modjeska Peak in where you have to cross over a blowout of where a rock slide occured. As far as everything else it is sad to see the burnt trees and less shade but I was just happy to be able to hike the trail instead of it being closed. Finally it is awesome being ontop of Orange County with being able to see the Pacific Ocean, Corona & Riverside, Mount Baldy, and towards Long Beach & LA. A really cool spot and not too much of a challenging hike (if you start at the dirt parking lot).
