Black Mountain
I tried to do this hike about a month ago but showed up to the parking lot around 8AM and every single parking lot was full.
I showed up at 6:15AM this time and the place was fairly empty. The weather was great, nice and cool in the morning. It was pretty foggy at the top of the mountain, enough to soak your clothes.
The trail is a fire road for most of the trail, but the last two miles are well maintained single track. There are high voltage power lines along most of the fire road as well which have an audible hum so it’s not the most serene hike. Didn’t get any views from the peak due to the fog and I couldn’t locate the USGS altitude badge.
I was able to spot NASA AMES on the way down and did see a tarantula.
