Started at 6AM, 1.5 miles in, realized that I didn't leave the parking pass on my dashboard. So I dropped my pack and had to run back to the car, then back to my wife adding 3 miles onto my hike and losing a full hour. We hiked and were making good time till we passed the Sturtevant Camp and the climb starts to get a little more difficult. We started encountering snow not long after. The climb past Sturtevant took us a long time (about a mile an hour) and we had to put on microspikes as we started sliding around quite a bit. We got up to the peak, hit the Mt. Wilson sign and the LA Flood control marker at the lookout and stopped to eat lunch and rest in the sun at the closed Cosmic Cafe. We cooked up some hot cocoa and got ready for the decent. We then hit the USGS marker and started the decent at 3PM. We had taken so long on the ascent that we really wanted to make up time going down, so we decided to forgo microspikes and just get going. We got past the burn area with all the poodle-dog bush on the West side of the mountain, and once we got past the the road junction we really started to eat up the miles. The sections of the downhill with snow we went fast and the snow took the brunt of the knee jarring decent. Once we got down past the snowline, we had to slow down a little so I wouldn't ruin my knees. We still did the best we could and managed to get down to the parking lot by 7PM.
