Sizer Loop. Counter-clockwise. Cool, cloudy day. Steady drizzle at beginning cleared by 9:30am.
Two icy stream crossings were mid-calf high. Brought flip-flops for these moments. Got the job done.
If I had to hike up the very steep grade on Hobbs Road between the stream and Blue Ridge Road, I might have rage quit. Counter-clockwise was the right choice for me, since this section downhill (and after lunch).
No marker at the summit, just a signal tower. No place to sit for lunch, either.
Followed AllTrails map, which exclusively follows dull fire roads. There are many nearby trails, like Jackass Trail, that provide more interesting landscape (and name).
LOTS of wild flowers, deer, variety of birds. No rattlesnakes today.
NOTE: parking $8 and quite limited.
