We went and hiked Cucamonga on Saturday, and we were expecting to get a dusting of snow, and then to have snow falling down on us when we hiked down on Sunday, but the storm blew in early, and we started getting rain at about 8pm. My wife and I hunkered down in my tent and make sure that we had a water bottle for each of us in our bags so they wouldnt freeze overnight. I woke up at 3:45 to 4-5 inches of snow on the peak and started to freak out a little since it is hard to find the trail at the peak. We both started to slowly pack our things up and at 5:45, none of the other campers at the peak were awake (5 other tents). We got out of the tent and quickly stuffed the tent away. We took off and quickly found the trail and started heading down. The first half of the trail down to the main saddle was mostly fun with the snow actually making the hike easier on my knees. The second half of the hike down quickly became a drag as the melting snow, and then the rain started to soak my pack, making it feel like the 35 lbs it started at was now 50 lbs. All in all a pretty good first overnight hike where I learned a lot, but definitely “Type 2 fun”.
