I did this hike one week after a freak snow storm that saw snow falling at 1000ft in the Los Angeles mountains and foothills. There was still a fair amount of icy and slushy snow in the shadier areas if the trail above 3000ft. I used microspikes from about 4,500ft to the top. Up on top of Wilson, there was still 2-3ft of snow. On the hike back down, Poodle Dog bush was very prevalent in the burn areas on the west face of Mt. Wilson.
