Started at the trailhead at 9:00AM. On exposed areas it was warm. I soaked my shirt, hat, and kerchief, in the stream just before entering the wilderness area to aid in staying cool. It helped quite a bit. I was camping out on top of the mountain, so I stopped at the spring on the way up and loaded up on extra water to cook dinner and breakfast with. Further on at about 7,300ft. There was a creek flowing just off trail that I could have topped off at and saved myself carrying the water from the lower spring. Gnats and flies were quite a pain. I must have inhaled about 3 gnats on the way up, and the blood sucking black flies ate up my lower legs once I was at the top. Cucamonga Peak has some great camping spots and one of the best views of any of the peaks because of the way it just up from the valley floor below. The wind kicked up to about 15mph gust right around sunset, but totally died off about an hour after sundown. Overall a beautiful hike, with the only negative being the gnats and flies.
