Perfect weather day. Lots of rain the prior few weeks, but warmish and sunny with passing puffy clouds on hike day. We have kids, had to drop them off at school before starting up so didn't get on the trail until 8:45am. The math on the signs doesn't add up – pretty sure this is a 15.5mile hike total, not the 14 we saw online when planning. Lots of water through Little Santa Anita Canyon gave us a nice nature-sounds soundtrack up and back. Recent rains put on a wildflower show. Lots of purples. We hiked it the day before the Mt Wilson Trail Race so spent most of our time marveling that people were going to run this steep and narrow trail. Last few miles up we were TIRED, finally popped out up top into the Mt Wilson parking lot and found a dozen or so people milling about. Ran into a work colleague, wished we could get a sandwich at the Cosmic Cafe (closed on weekdays), filled up our water bottles and headed back down mountain. Last 2 miles down were really rough, our legs were toast by then. But overall a perfect perfect perfect day to bag our first peak!

Meant to say this was via the Mt. Wilson trail out of Sierra Madre.
