Baldy on a Friday
Started off behind the eight ball due to traffic, again. Did get on our way and it was a beautiful cloud free morning, a contrast to the marine layer we left behind. Today hiking with my son who had a day off and decided he would pace the old man. We came up via the Devils backbone so we could summit Harwood Peak as well. The trail was pretty good with the exception of one boulder to traverse in a steep section, but no big deal. We made it to the top of Baldy in about 2 and 1/2 hours and talked to a few people on top who had run up and were actually running the 3 T trail and down Icehouse where they had started. Pretty humbling! We scoped out a future route from Guffy Campground which takes you over Pine Mountain and has a lot more elevation changes and longer mileage to get to the peak. We headed down and did a 100 yard glissade down some of the North facing snow and then headed up to Harwood peak. The trail down actually had my knee hurting a bit on one of the ski runs, but that didn’t stop my son from deciding we should go for it and glissade under the lift straight down from the restaurant. This was a lot of fun and way easier on the body, but not suggested if you are unsure how to do it as a lot of rocks can hurt you. The bugs were not to bad and we had a great day and felt great after words. Looks like this week its either San G or San Bernardino. Early tickets were already sold out until 2pm for Saturday at San Jacinto.
