Day 2 of 2 peaks… we had just conquered Cucamonga the day before.. and on Saturday 6/22/19..Baldy was our b*tch! We parked the car at 6am and the lot was FULL! We chose a clockwise jaunt.. starting up Ski Hut trail. At 8100 feet (Ski Hut) there were tons of people snacking and resting. It didn't feel much like the wilderness with all the people, but the terrain and views were still amazing.
The ascent was gnarly but FUN.. Natalie and I both said (after the fact) that the climb was tough but doable… there was never a time when we thought it was too tough. Just a constant challenge! I mean shit… there were trail runners passing us! Ugh!
We summited at 9am and there were 40 people up there. We stayed an hour to enjoy the 360 degree views. We descended via Devils Backbone and there were so many people coming up that trail, that I videoed it and called it the 405 freeway.
The last 3 miles were a sad and sun-exposed fire road without much excitement. We kept our minds distracted with some comical banter and endless chatter.
All in all, it was a great hike, and we forty-year-olds were feeling it! Especially after back-to-back peaks!
