Nice view from the tower

Drove up from Phoenix for the day.  We were definitely feeling the elevation especially given the unrelenting steepness of this hike.  Start early as this hike is fairly exposed to the sun (with intermittent shade).  Views were okay on the way up.  Very nice views of the painted desert and the mountains in the tower at the very top though.  The guy working in the tower was very friendly; he showed us where we were on the map and took our picture!  The way down is somewhat treacherous; it felt like every time we stepped slightly off trail to let someone pass we would slip.  We brought trekking poles and would recommend them, especially for the way down.  Not our favorite hike in the area but was a great workout!  2 down!
