I was looking forward to this hike because I finally bought crampons. They were tucked in and waiting to be put on, somewhere in the backpack, below the usual two PB&J sandwiches. There were a surprising number of people on the trail. As we crossed Devil's Backbone the clouds and fog began to blow in. The temperature dropped significantly. We hiked on, higher and higher, never really seeing any significant snow. This was surprising after experiencing the snow on Cucamonga. When we finally reached the peak, it was cold and windy. Very, very cold. We had a quick cup of hot chocolate and after building a tiny snowman, we began our descent. No one stayed at the summit for long. I was disappointed that I didn't need the crampons, but I must say that overall it was an enjoyable hike. And much better than my last summit in July when the temp was in the 90s. Another hike done. On to the next!
