Initially, we weren't going to attempt SB peak on this day as there was lightning and thunder in the forecast as of the night before. We were heading to Ontario Peak the morning of and decided to check the weather on SB Peak one more time and it was calling for “cloudy weather”. As a result, we took a detour off the freeway and headed toward SB Peak. When we got there, the weather was overcast and very pleasant for a summer day. About 7 miles into the hike we noticed dark clouds and checked a lightning app that stated lightning was 6 miles away and that we should “seek shelter immediately”. We realized that the 6 miles was from a different measurement point and that we were definitely more than 10 miles away. We persevered, summited, took our obligatory pictures and then quickly descended the mountain. It was an ideal day for hiking as it was overcast and no direct sunlight. Mission accomplished!!!
