This hike was what I like to call “working from home”, as I told my boss I wouldn’t be making it in to work and then proceeded to summit Mount Elden at 6am. This was a very strenuous hike, moreso than I was expecting, but a very rewarding trail. Definitely one where the journey was better than the destination. I saw a plentiful amount of flora and fauna, including a doe,  a hummingbird, many lizards, the biggest blackest hornet I’ve ever seen, a horny toad, and one cactus. It was definitely hotter than I was expecting and would recommend a one-hour earlier start for future hikers. This might be my new favorite Flagstaff hike, and I can definitely see myself running trail here (especially on Fatman’s Loop). 10/10 recommend (if you like strenuous hikes)
