Sorry for a very delayed trip report. I and one of my friends, Monika Erande, summited Diablo via Mitchell Canyon on May 27th. It was a beautiful day for this strenuous but beautiful hike. I had summited Mt.Diablo before from Danville side but that trail has no shade at all. On the contrary, Mitchell canyon has lot of shade and is really beautiful in Spring.
The trail has gradual climb and it also gives some relief with flat in between. Trail markers are in great condition and we followed AllTrails as well as Google at times. Diablo as you may know is very windy and cloudy most of the times at top so carry warm clothes for the top for sure.
Parking was easy around 6:30 at Mitchell Canyon and we could leave money in the envelop as the park office doesn't open until 8am i think. It's $6 for day parking. We began around 7:15am and we finished hike around 3:30pm. All in all, a beautiful hike.
