Cucamonga peak is in the bag!

We got to the parking lot at 6:20am and by 6:30am the lot was full. Despite starting the hike at the same time as other hikers we still found solitude. This trail head leads to many other trails so not everyone was going in the same direction that we were. We took our first break at the saddle and it was very chilly in the shade! We continued to feel that chilly wind on the way to the top but where we ate lunch was warm and extremely pleasant. Amazing views at the summit and a bunch of really friendly people.

  1. Congrats! How are the trail conditions on the descent? I had a heck of a time the last mile on Baldy with one of my knees. I am scheduled to hike Cucamonga in a few weeks and want to make sure I give me knee enough rest. Baldy Bowl trail was very steep and rocky so it killed my knee. I just want to make sure I am not sliding down Cugamonga too.

    Thank you!

  2. Hi Debra!

The constant downhill was tough on my knees and we passed a few hikers having a similar struggle. Using my trekking poles really helped though. Some stretches were very slippery and the poles kept me from falling a few times. To save the knees I used them when I probably didn’t have to, but it was good to give them that constant support. Good luck!
