It was a beautiful day… aside from hauling up a 35 lb pack and not staying the night ? (my wife and I are training to hike the JMT in August? stoked!) AND hanging a left just before the summit and adding almost a mile to the hike (unwanted ??)… my head was down, I was hiking hard and saw the clear trail on the left (at the wood pole) and took it. It dawned on me about 10 (downhill) minutes, when I looked up and to the right, right at the summit lol I was ticked to say the least but summed it up to extra training ? And yes I noticed the sharpy writing on the wood post on the way down, indicating to stay straight for the peak. Oh well!
Anyway, It was overcast and perfect temp on the way up (started about 0830), there were LOTS of people on the trail, chose to break just a little past the saddle because there was literally no where to sit. Nice to see so many hikers though. There were about 5-6 groups at the top when I made the summit at noon, the clouds had broken and it turned out to be a clear, beautiful day. The hike down (left around 1300) was much warmer but still essentially perfect weather, much less crowded on the way down. Head, neck, and arms paid for the afternoon sun ? Overwall, 10/10 hike! Feeling good tonight, we’ll see about tomorrow ? looking forward to knocking out another Peak next weekend!
