It was really windy the day I drove to Mt. Baden-Powell. I wanted to hike through snow and most of the snow on other nearby peaks looked like it had melted on the north side so I decided to do a hike that had the trail on the south side of a mountain to get a better chance of finding some un-melted snow. The beginning of the trail was pretty dry and I started finding patches of ice about 1/3 of the way up. These were really slippery and eventually the patches got bigger up the switchbacks. I put on my crampons and continued up, eventually the trail got fuzzy and I decided to follow the lead of other hikers and cut straight up the mountainside. I summited relatively quickly by cutting straight up, though my shoes did get full of water and snow. Coming down I found a group of hikers who were having trouble getting back down. The trail was iced over and none of them had any crampons on. One of the hikers had nearly slipped down the mountainside after stepping on the patch of ice. They were asking for help crossing and I was able to help out by cutting up the trail for the group with an ice axe to get them safely accross. They thanked me and assured me that it would also be helping out other hikers without crampons who would be hiking through. The hike down was rather quick just hiking/slipping down until the snow thinned out and i was able to find the trail again. Overall it was a great hike through alot of powder and some ice at the summit.
