Peak #4 in the books. Decided to go from Sunol since I went from Del Valle last year. When I started, the peaks were shrouded in clouds, with a potential for some rain. Started by Leyden Flats and headed out on Ohlone Road to follow Alameda Creek to revisit Little Yosemite and the “W” tree where we used to take our son’s Cub Scout pack. Took a turn up Backpack Road to the Ohlone Wilderness Trail through the backpack camp. Enjoyed the high meadow views both back toward Sunol and ahead into the Ohlone Wilderness. Well marked signposts with red medallions indicated the Ohlone Wilderness Trail, which was a single track then a series of dirt roads. Terrain followed a relatively steady uphill until South Fork Indian Creek (which was little more than a trickle), which afforded a quick downhill followed by the last push to the summit. Fortunately, no rain, and the clouds dispersed as I neared the summit. Rose Peak does not have a marker, though I recalled a sign in tube bolted to the ground over 15 years ago. Of note – that trek in 2002 was in the snow as we did a point to point from Sunol to Del Valle. That was my most epic Bay Area hike by far. This morning there were a number of other groups doing shorter hikes, but I only met 4 who were going to Rose Peak. Went to the visitors center after the hike and picked up a free T-shirt and guide for the East Bay Regional Parks Challenge
