… hiking Volcan Mountain! So how appropriate to make it my first of six. I like to start early, usually no matter the weather. I got to the trailhead around 8:00 a.m. (online it said the Preserve opened at 8 a.m.) and got started around 8:10 a.m. The day was beautiful! The weather was my kind of hiking weather ~ start in the 40s and end in the 60s. I loved the challenge of the elevation gains and knew that as long as I kept going UP on the way to the top I would be going DOWN at the end! This made me very happy. There were a few patches of snow left and toward the top there was enough to make a snowman. There was one section of the trail that was solid ice so I tiptoed my way through that section. By the time I headed down, it had melted some. I was blessed by having deer dart right across the trail behind me ~ too late to get a photo! The views at the top were beautiful. I had heard about so many hiking this trail so I was excited it was on the list for this year. It is confusing at the “top” to know you are actually at the summit. There is no sign or indication that you are “there”. That just seemed a little odd to me. But maybe that is just me.
Now on to the next adventure!
Until next time …
