Also on this hike
Took my MIL on her 3rd hike ever, she carried my 1yr old and I carried the 3yr old. I was starting to get a cold and my littles both had colds but were bundled in snow clothes to stay warm.
We started about 7:30am and took the trail clockwise staring by the camping area up the paved fire road.
This way we had the sun to our backs, was easier on my knee and if there was an issue with the littles we could leave faster.
Made the sum by 10:22am and took our time at the top for the littles.
We came back down the Azalea trail, and oh the rocks. I’m glad we came down the rocks rather than up but it was unpleasant overall.
We did run into a number of people coming up on our way down. We even ran into the solo guy we saw near the top of Corte Madera.
Weather was chilly, but warm when walking. There was some frost on the ground in shady areas.
About a mile from the trailhead we came across a fallen tree, neither one of us wanted to take the kid packs off so we helped each other to climb over safely. We did alert a ranger back at the parking lot.
Overall I think my least favorite trail of this challenge. Partially because I wasn’t feeling well, packing a 35lb kid, and rocks, so many rocks!
Made it back to the parking lot about 4pm.
Had dinner in Julian afterwards.
