Mt. Tallac is a challenging hike that pays off with beautiful views.  During the first mile you have views of Fallen Leaf Lake, then you walk past Floating Island Lake and Cathedral Lake.  From here the elevation gain increases, you get a nice view of Cathedral Lake and Fallen Leaf Lake as you head up.  Next up is the “rock bowl” where currently there are two snow patches to cross or scramble around.  From there as you continue up the terrain is more pleasant with some snow patches that are easy to cross.  During this section you will have some distant views of the Crystal Range, Lake Aloha and Gilmore Lake.  Once reaching the summit area, there is a short section of tallus to traverse.  At the top you are rewarded with 360 degree views of Lake Tahoe and Desolation Wilderness.
