Slippery slopes of the red rocks of Sedona
Also on this hike
We endured the slippery slopes of the red rocks because we encountered rain on both the ascent and descent. Add that to an intense incline and it made for quite an adventure!
It was beautiful when we started at 7:30am, but the rain started within 30 minutes. Thankfully we were prepared with rain jackets.
The 2.5 mile climb to the summit was slower than usual because of the elements. It took us 3.5 hours just to get there! But once the rain cleared, we were treated to gorgeous blue skies and amazing views of Sedona. Because we were moving so slowly, we were able to appreciate the beauty surrounding us.
After a 30 minute break for summit snacks, we began our descent. We could see the skies changing again and knew we were in for more rain. Just 30 minutes later, it was back and stuck around for an hour. That made our descent more sketchy and slippery. I called it a descent into madness.
All in all, it was a pretty awesome hike. Brutal climb. Super steep. Crazy conditions. But it was worth the effort for the payoff!
