All Homecoming week we are celebrating YOU — our members. You already are making connections and building community on Social Hiker, and we want to celebrate where we've been, and where we are headed.
We have some awesome changes coming in the months ahead. Join Jeff Hester, Chief Adventure Officer and founder of the Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge Series for special announcements of what's ahead for challenge series and the Social Hiker community, including:
New Features
- Peak Points: We are introducing a rewards system for discounts on registration, apparel, gear and hiker swag. Trade your points for discounts or even free swag.
- Outdoor Skills: Level-up your outdoor skills and get recognition for your expertise with badges for Leave No Trace awareness, Wilderness First Aid training and more.
- Peak Counter: You will not only get credit for multiple summits of the same peak, but you will get a running total of peaks bagged on your profile.
- New Badges: Earn new badges that recognize your participation in the community, and keep you and your friends motivated. With new badges introduced each month.
- Track Mileage and Streaks:
New Challenges
- Adirondacks: A perfect companion to the New England challenge, this explores New York's Adirondack Mountains.
- Central Coast: A new challenge on California's Central Coast. Great for locals and for an adventure vacation.
- Lake Tahoe: The scenic lake straddles two great states, and this challenge gives you views that explore the area in depth.
- New Mexico: This challenge is perfect for exploring the mountains of northern New Mexico, using Albuquerque and Santa Fe as your basecamp. The challenge includes the state highpoint.
- Northern California: Yes, the current NorCal challenge will be renamed as the San Francisco Bay Area challenge, with a brand new challenge that ventures further north and east — making Redding and Sacramento a great starting point for the new NorCal challenge.
- Plus, new mini-challenges! Did you join our 30 Days of Microadventure Challenge back in August. It will be back again in 2023, along with other fun ways to participate beyond bagging peaks.
New to the App
- Log your hikes! The most-requested feature is finally moving out of “beta” and into the app. You'll be able to log your hikes directly using the app, making it easier to share photos and more.
- View your achievements: the badges you earn as you participate in the community and complete challenges will be accessible right in the app.
- Usability and navigation: we are bringing together the best parts of the website and the app, allowing you to move between either with ease.
These are just a few of the updates coming for the year ahead.
Everyone who attends will earn a special badge on their Social Hiker profile, plus you'll have a chance to win a $40 REI gift card and get early access to registration for the 2023 Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge Series.
