Today a brave group of 10 hikers took on the Sunol to Rose Peak 18.2 mile hike and completed it in 6:18 and gained 4016 in elevation.
The group started off at 830am and just took the standard route from Sunol up to the peak. The morning was cool but quickly warmed up as they went along
The birds were chirping, squirrels and quail running, and the sun was out. It was warm but a nice breeze kept up most of the day. It was very dry, and the grass had already turned brown for the most part. But there were some flowers along the way!
One strong hiker hit the summit first and waited for the rest of the group to arrive. Pictures and congratulations were had at the top and lunch was enjoyed.
At the top of Rose a hiker asked to join this merry band of hikers on their decent. He was from the East Coast and went to the University of Cornell. He was welcomed into the family immediately.
The group spread out on the decent and it was getting warmer. But spirits were still high and pictures were taken.
The group arrived back at the parking lot at about 4pm. As they were stringing in from the trail another round of congratulations were enjoyed. One of the brave hikers asked if there was maybe cold beer hiding in someone’s car but unfortunately not this time.
It was a great day to be in Sunol and hike Rose Peak. I suggest doing it earlier in the spring when everything is greener. Thanks to all who joined me!
