The morning was extremely cold. We met at 6am and we were all shivering, we expected it to be cold but not too cold since it was still late summer. We were entirely wrong, it was freezing. As soon as we started hiking my knee suddenly had a sharp pain and it continued on for the entire hike, which caused me to lag at the back of the group for most of the hike. The 3-2-1 Challenge is the 3 peak, 2 counties, and 1 day challenge. Where we hiked 3 peaks, Mt. Pinos, Sawmill, and Gross Mountain. The 2 counties were Kern and Ventura County. The hike was interesting. In the beginning it was smooth and nice but as we went on it just got harder. My condition was not the best but I'm glad that I was able to finish the hike. The vegetation in many areas were prickly, which endued a series of “ow” and “augh”‘s from my troop. It felt like a roller coaster really. We would go up, then go down, then go back up, then go down, then go back up, then go back down. Then once we reached the last peak, we hiked back all the way to where we began. I'm proud that despite my lack of motivation and faltering condition of my right leg I was able to make it through and finish the challenge. The weather was adequate, it was sunny but not unbearably hot.
