Arrived at the trailhead around 6am on a Sunday morning. Easy parking. National forest so ATB or adventure pass required.
A perfect day for this hike. Some clouds rolled in so it stayed cool and there was an occasional breeze. Very few folks on the trail. Lush vegetation, wildflowers, overgrown in sections — pants recommended.
A definite butt kicker with the three consecutive peaks. The hike to Pinos has some good cover, between Pinos and Sawmill is mostly uncovered with some gradual grade switchbacks followed by the steepest section of the hike. Grouse is tranquil and totally worth the additional effort.
