Set out early in the morning. Was on the trail before 6am. It was chilly and got very windy once we got to the saddle and it continued on throughout our trek to the Peak. There was still quite a bit of snow on the ground from the saddle on. We took our micro-spikes on and off several times. I felt like it would have been too dangerous to cross some of the snow patches without the spikes. Despite the wind and snow we did reach the peak fairly quickly. The view from the top wasn't very good as there was too many clouds to see anything. Took a few picture then headed back down. Got off the trail somewhat on the way back down because of all the snow making it difficult to see where the trail actually was. I've hiked this trail several times so I felt confident, even when we got off course for a bit. Our group decided to trudge forward to Bighorn after summitting Cucamonga. I've never been to Bighorn from Cucamonga Peak. The trail over there was extremely steep, narrow, and hard to see, but there wasn't any snow on that trail and we were able to find the peak marker despite almost walking right by it. From Bighorn we continued on to Ontario Peak…..which I'll write about in another entry. But 3 peaks in a day is a record for me!
