El Capitan is definitely a challenging hike. However, there were no bugs, which is amazing!

The ascents are long and steep with several similar  steep descents on your way to the summit and back. Conserve your energy because you’ll need it for the hike back to your car.  Hiking poles were helpful and I’d highly recommend bringing them.

Please make sure you bring enough water!  2-3L of water for this hike is simply not enough. I’d recommend 4L minimum. I saw several people who were not really prepared for this type of hike. Luckily, I brought plenty of water and was able to share my extra. You should consider bringing electrolytes too.

The summit is spectacular and is totally worth the journey!  If you just started hiking, or you’ve recently started trying to get in shape, I’d wait until you have a few easier hikes under your belt before you endeavor to complete this one.
