So even though I completed six peaks, how could I pass up San Gorgonio? (and maybe a few more too). I arranged a small group through Facebook and most canceled except one, but she and I had a great time. We were well-matched pace-wise and how we liked to hike, # of stops etc.
I almost didn't make it because silly me, I was out until midnight and woke up at 3am to leave for the hike. From experience, don't hike San Gorgonio on only 2 hours of sleep.
The trail was beautiful, I loved all the tall trees and little creeks and campgrounds. The first mile and the 8th mile were to hardest. That last slog up to the peak at elevation was really tough on me. When we got to the top there was a small rain storm passing through. We could see it raining between us and San Jacinto, and some of it was blowing on us. The peak was very cold and windy. A bit unexpected and I definitely could have used another layer.
The way down seemed so long!! I wasn't feeling up to running any of it which is usually what I do. By the bottom it was sunny and 90 degrees again.
I can't wait to do it again!
