Boy was this a climb! Totally doable, but what got me was not being able to really see the mountain we were tackling.
Think of this trail as a four stage summit. You climb a for a bit to a summit, crest the top, and then see the next mountain. Stage 1 complete.
Trek that ridge and down for a bit to hike up the next mountain. Stage 2, you’re halfway up.
Summit that mountain and yet another is revealed. Scenery changes a bit from red rocks to manzanita and high desert bouldering. Head down to go back up again for, you guessed it, stage 3 – check.
This final summit is the most difficult to see the top of, we questioned if we were even on the right mountain at this point, but those white markers don’t lie. Walk along a precarious ridge and tad-dah, you see the final post in the middle of the last summit.
All in all a lovely hike. Very sun exposed so definitely get out early!
Happy Trails!
