The weather was perfect for the hike up Sutton. The trail was frozen with about an inch of powder on top. My dog and I were quickly greeted by 2 ranch dogs that stayed with us the whole time. Someone referred to the red and white one as “Sutton” in a hike log last year, so I called his companion, “Mitchell.” We made good time to the top. The summit was gorgeous, as was the entire setting. I decided to run to the bottom because the conditions were just right for it. When I got to the gate (a couple of miles from the bottom), I paused to take off my coat. I stuffed it in my pack the best I could, as it was already full. I forgot to cinch the top closed, but I wasn't too worried because everything was squeezed so tightly together that I knew it wouldn't move. When I got to the bottom of the trail I realized that my jacket had indeed fallen out (with my gloves and prescription sunglasses in the pockets). I hiked back a little ways to see if I could see where it fell out, but no such luck. My husband was waiting, so I had to go. If you see my jacket out there, let me know!

      1. Sweet!

We will be driving through Prineville tomorrow on our way home.

        Send address….

        Looks like you know Nikki!

        1. I hiked up Barnes Butte with Nikki on New Year’s Day, a year ago. 🙂 I haven’t lived in the area long and it was wonderful to meet her. We follow each other on social media but haven’t seen each other since.

I’m a teacher at Barnes Butte Elementary. Would you be willing to drop it off there tomorrow (that is IF you’ll be traveling during school hours)? It wouldn’t be far off the main road. The address is 1875 NE Ironhorse Dr.

If you’re passing through later than 3:00 pm, I can meet you any time at any place!
