A Cloudy Day on Mount Wilson

I completed my first six pack of peaks hike to Mount Wilson on Saturday May 26th. Arriving around 6:20AM to a full parking lot I eventually found parking on the side of the road. I got my adventure pass and started hiking around 7AM. It was a bit disappointing given that it was overcast as I was looking forward to the views but it turned out to be a great day. I just kept telling myself this makes the hike more unique. It was very crowded at the parking lot so I figured the trail would be too but after about mile I was pretty much by myself except for a few groups here and there.

I printed out a map and had my AllTrails app track me which helped at trail intersections. Highlights included: Hiking past the somewhat creepy (in a cute sort of way) cabins made even more creepy by the dark overcast morning. Switch backs through pine trees. Being enveloped by clouds at the peak. Getting hot coffee at the summit cafe (it was freezing but I did have an extra layer). Running into a group dressed in all white filming a Tai Chi video at the observatory parking lot. And except for that one guy who didn't respond, saying hello to fellow hikers as we passed each other.

The hike down was much less eventful but still beautiful.

Just when you think your done with the hike you have to walk back up a hill on a paved trail to the parking lot! I guess in the 6.5 hours it took to complete the loop I forgot about that part.

I'll definitely hike this trail again to see the views but I'm looking forward to the next 5 hikes – hopefully on clear days.
