After a decade-long hiatus from long hiking activity, this was a comeback hike for me. Inspired by two friends who are regulars, I finally decided to jump the wagon and RSVP’d ‘Yes’ for 6-Peaks challenge. We started off at Emmons Canyon trailhead, around 6am, hoping to cover the ground as much before the sun hits. Observed quite a bit of flora (Wildflowers, Poison oak etc.) along the way (most ways were uphill), and some fauna (a hare, a falcon & some bumblebees). Top of the summit was ~10.30am. The small museum on top have some good fun facts (includes a fragment of USS Arizona from Pearl Harbor!). It was such a detoxification exercise, where your mind believes you can do miracles, but your body doesn’t agree to it! I tried stayed covered, used sunscreen, carried plenty of water, Gatorade, Oranges & some nuts. Get sticks for walking, that helps a lot. If anyone is returning to hiking like I was, Mt Diablo can be really challenging. Alas, I made it…Looking for next adventure!
