We did the ‘Black Mountain via PG&E, Quarry and Black Mountain Trail' from AllTrails. The parking lots were full on what we thought would be a quiet, overcast and somewhat damp Sunday. We managed to find a parking spot and set off to the trailhead (a couple of parking lots over]. It was pretty busy on the first section of the trail, with fewer and fewer as we got further up the mountain. We set a good pace and maintained this for most of the hike. The trail is wide to start with and then narrows significantly towards the end. We were fortunate that it didn't rain, else it would have been slippery. The incline is pretty steep in parts, and the last two miles to the summit felt like they were interminable!

This was one of the less scenic and impressive hikes up the peaks we've done. We saw a couple of bunny rabbits and some birds but otherwise, the vegetation and scenery is not that remarkable. The views are somewhat marred by the electricity pylons, which provide the background hum to your ascent/descent. The summit is also somewhat unremarkable with no summit marker (that we could find), although we did spot the very small geo marker in one of the rocks we perched on for a quick sandwich.

Overall we did the 12.45 mile hike in 5h07m with a total of 3426ft of elevation gain (according to my Apple watch!)
