After finishing up Peak 2, Corte Madera, I hopped in my truck and drove about 45 minutes so I could complete Peak 3, Volcan Mountain. I arrived at the trailhead right around 1100. The late morning temps were right around 45 degrees with mostly clear skies. There surprisingly, for a Tuesday, there were a lot of cars parked at the trailhead.
My plan today was to just head straight up, summit, and then head straight back down as quickly as I could. However, the weather felt so great and the fall foliage was just amazing. So, I took my time on the ascent and took in the views. Once at the summit, I took my time checking out all of the various points of interest and sat on the bench for a good 15 minutes.
My descent was much the same as my ascent. Great views, and lots of yellow and gold leaves. I even decided to take the Five Oaks route down which adds about a half mile or so to the hike. So glad I did. I racked up 5.44 miles with 1,363 feet in elevation gain in 2 hours and 25 minutes.
Peak #3 done!
