Meet up with my friend on a Tuesday morning to hike Mt. Baldy. This was a quick hike. The planned was to knocked Mt. Baldy and San Bernardino Peak before our San Jacinto Peak.
The Hike:
▪We started from Manker Flat area around 0900 in the morning. The weather was a little hot already during the time we started. We were talking and just talking and we missed the turn for Baldy Bowl Trail. We basically hiked 1 mile away from the junction. We turned back and took the Baldy Bowl Trail going up to Mt. Baldy. The weather was getting too hot. But it was okay, we took the shaded area going up. My friend was walking too fast and I do have my own pace of walking. We were far from each other but I enjoyed my own time. We both have to make sure we will be done before 1700 in the afternoon. We made it to the Ski Hut and took our 15 minutes break. Replenish ourselves before the inclines. After our break, we hiked up with the hot weather. My friend was still infront of me a little bit mile away. But it was okay, I can managed myself. After the summit, we took the Devil's Backbone Trail going back down. We were descending too fast and slowed down on some area. There were some area that were washed out and needed to be careful with the footing. It seems like from the rocks slide. I was holding on the side just to pass by it. It was a little bit scary. Anyhow, we made it on time by 1400 on the parking lot.
▪This was my first time taking the Baldy Bowl Trail going up. Yes, it was a gradual inclined but bearable. It was part of my training for the C2C at the same time. I continued hiking slowly. I just don't like hiking under the heat. The weather was too hot and the heat was too much for me. It slowed me down more. But the breezes of air was so nice and cool, it was helping me to push myself more to summit. My friend was cheering me too ??. While, I took my time going up, I still made it to the summit by 1230. Reaching the summit, there were few people and not too crowded during the weekdays. Which was really nice. This was my 3rd time being up here?. The view, the scenery, the landscapes and the mountains from afar with a 360 view. Was just amazing. Reaching the peak, the weather was different. It was cooler and not hot at all.
Trail Conditions:
▪Skit Hut going up to the summit is steep inclined. Well marked trails. We went down via Devil's Backbone Trail. The trails were still well maintained. But there were some area, were washed out or one foot at a time thing. Due to rocks slide. So going up and down via Devil's Backbone Trail. Just need to be careful and watch the footing.
