Wasn't sure what we were in for with this one. We originally had plans to do San Bernardino Peak, but our permits were rescinded by the rangers due to the fires. We have been cooking in the 100 degree weather at our house in Perris, Ca so the 30 degree change to the cooler side was very welcomed. A long and steady climbing to the top. I think we used muscles we didn't know we had to get up there. Our hardest hike yet, which ended in a calf crushing rock scramble. Once at the top, the view is hard to describe, so beautiful. The height really messes with your depth perception. We just wanted to hang onto that sign for dear life. One of the highlights of the day was being buzzed by a pilot in a large glider at the peak. Wow what a great experience. That along with watching everyone drag their tired bodies up the last few rocks while we all rooted them on was inspiring too. It's was a tough one. Loved the emergency hut. Real nice people on this trail also. Ran into some fellow sixpack competitors. Still can't get over these super athletes that run up and down the thing without breaking an ankle. Looking forward to our next one. It will be peak 5 for my wife and I. We just have to wait for the fires to clear to complete our last two peaks. The trailheads for San Bernardino Peak and San Gorgonio Peak remain closed as of today according to Cal Fire.
