This was an interesting day. We arrived at what we thought was the parking lot to find a bunch of photographers, cameramen, vans and people crowding around a race chute. Apparently, a 100-mile trail race to the Rose Bowl had started right before we arrived at another checkpoint. We started hiking the trail thinking we were in the right spot, but soon figured out we were shy of the actual trailhead. We got caught up in all the excitement. So, we made our way over to the real trailhead, which was another checkpoint for the racers, and ended up sharing the hike up the mountain with dozens of trail runners. It was a fun hike and the easiest one by far of the challenge. It felt like a nice, easy dusty walk after doing baldy.
