We started our hike early Saturday morning around 6:30am towards the Ski Lift, then up Devil's Backbone. The first leg of the trip was actually pretty moderate compared to our previous 4 hikes of the 6 peak challenge. We made it to the ski lift at a such a good pace, we were surprised when we got there at how far we had already gone. It was nice and breezy there, where the sun was actually a welcoming site. After a short break we made our way towards Devil's Backbone. We decided to take the Turkey Shoot up to the Devil's Backbone junction, while more steep, it saved us a few minutes and gave our calves a nice burn.

I watched several YouTube videos in preparation of actually crossing Devil's Backbone, so I felt like I knew all the tricky spots. Still, being on that section of the trail was a surreal experience. Despite the potential dangers of a big slip, it was beautiful!

Once we got to the final push, heavy gusts of wind prevented a quick ascent. Which was a blessing in disguise as the altitude was definitely getting to me. I had to take more and more breaks in that last mile or so than any of the other peaks combined. Our legs and lungs hated it, but we made it to the top. An amazing 360 view was well worth the struggle. After a long break for lunch, photos, and a general admiration of the views and accomplishment. We made our way back down Devil's Backbone, this time, even less daunting as our minds were at ease and now on familiar terrain.

Onward to San Gorgonio to finish off the challenge!
