We started this backpacking hike the same day we finished coming down Jacinto. We showered quickly and set off to go backpack up Baldy. Starting off I was already exhausted! It was slow going on the way up. But we made it. Luckily my partner was very patient. We were worried about not being able to find a wind shelter. We made it to the top before sunset. There were only 2 other guys at the summit at this time.

Next thing we knew, there was a search and rescue helicopter circling the summit. He began to yell down at us and informed us that there were 2 lost hikers near the summit. We immediately went searching for these lost hikers. Luckily, we found them and we had extra water, lot and lots of water. So we gave the lady hiker a bottle of water with electrolytes and off they went with the 2 other guys at the summit.

Later in the evening, it became cold and dark. We then heard voices. The hikers were well prepared and experienced when it came to Baldy. We were all sitting around talking when 2 other hikers walked right by us. The male hiker was beyond exhausted based on looking at him. The female hiker asked for water and informed us that they were lost for 5-6 hours. Off they went to find their bag and then continue down the trail. They did not want to stay. The female hiker came back 30 minutes later looking for her partner. So we launched our own mini search and rescue. Found the male hiker but not the bag. They eventually went down the trail with the other 2 hikers. We spent the night at Baldy with no other people. Baldy to ourselves!!! That never happens!

In the morning, we went in search for the backpack and eventually found it. I took extra gear into my bag and my partner carried 2 bags down! This was a crazy weekend, full of adventures!!!
