Anyone who has never hiked, this should be the first trail you do. We spent the night in Julian then hiked the next day. There is a gate way you will not see on any other trail.
The plants change rapidly as you go. You are walking though a field of oats and then you are in a grove of Cedar trees, then a grove of Oaks. The trail is keep up very well. We saw next to nothing for flowers but in the spring time this should be a lot different.
Other side of the light tower is a survey marker.
There are not to many places you can stand on a clear day and see the ocean and the Salton sea. Foe us, we could not. It was clear where we stood but not over the ocean.
Take the Five Oaks trail back. It will remind you a little of what a peak hike is.
