I have day hiked this peak quite a bit, but never backpacked it… Much harder.  It was worth it though.  Arriving at the Los Cruzeros Campsite and the hiking “The Narrows” out the next day was totally worth the pain of the first day.

“The Narrows” is a river you can hike along to get to the Creekside Trail, to get you to Poverty Flats Road and back to HQ.  I have to say, “The Narrows” is arguably one of the most beautiful places in Henry Coe State Park, I highly suggest checking it out if you can, it was the best part of our trip.  Bring your swimsuit as the only way through it is to hike through deep water, or rock climb through poison oak.  It worth it.  Also, have a map, it can be easy to get mixed up at the beginning of hiking along the river.

Keep an eye and ear out for the Hound of Mt. Sizer.  He haunts these trails.
