There was no snow on the trail going up Register Ridge, until we got higher up, at the junction where the trail meets with Devil’s Backbone. Register Ridge is the steepest route to Mount Baldy, but probably the best choice given that there was some snow on the other routes leading to the peak. The beginning section is on terrain with some loose gravel, so grippy shoes recommended. Mine didn't have enough traction, so I put on microspikes. It was cold and windy especially around 9000 ft elevation, heading towards the summit.
We took Ski Hut trail coming down. More snow on this trail, between the peak and Ski Hut , so microspikes recommended. As always, Baldy did not disappoint – the views were amazing, and the landscape looks different in winter, with the snow. This was a perfect day to do this hike, as conditions made for a safe hike. Check weather conditions before you go, and above all else, stay safe !
