We started out from Reno at 5:00 am to ensure we were hiking in the coolest part of the day. As we started up the trail, we realized that most of it is covered by the shade of the trees which made it especially wonderful in the early morning hours. The ascent was slow and steady—never too steep. Fields of mule's ears were just past their prime unfortunately. After crossing over from California into Nevada, we were careful to be on the lookout for the summit. Good thing, too, or we would have missed it! It's basically a little mound of dirt with a log across most of it. The views of Tahoe were beautiful, for sure, but to be honest, it was quite a let down after Tinker Knob just two weeks earlier. As we walked back to the trailhead, we commented on how “easy” this hike was compared to the others. It was awesome to hang out with friends and be outside in the trees, but if the views just aren't the same as the other peaks. I'm glad I did this one but I wouldn't be excited to do it again unless it's just for the exercise!
