Arrived at the TH around 6:30am … plenty of parking and very people on th trail during the ascent. In some areas, narrow trail and overgrown plants. Amazing views with lush green plants against the red rock background. First .85 mile was climbing, but then the real climbing began for over another mile. Passed a hike coming down who mentioned they saw a rattlesnake. It was near the first bench … luckily, I missed it. Another climb after the bench but very doable. Hung out at the Wilson Mtn sign (saddle) waiting for entire party…bugs were annoying. No bug bites, but buzzing around you. We explored the North side first … flat walk to get there … great view of Mt Humphrey's and a busy 89A. Returned to the saddle and went south to the red rock side…if I had to choose one, this was my favorite.
I was slow on the descent with lack of grip in some areas that were rocky or loose dirt.
Great day with a lot of cloud coverage … though that sun in high country still got me even with sunscreen.
Very interested to see how the south trail compares.
