The weather was beautiful for Bear Mountain today – sunny and low 80s, with clouds rolling in near the end of the hike. When I first looked this trail up on Alltrails it showed it was under 5 miles, but while it's not super long, it is very rocky. I found that my hiking poles were pretty much useless as I had to use my hands a lot and scoot on my butt a few times (I'm not the most graceful hiker!). There were a few spots on the trail that the trail was more smooth and easier, but a lot of the trail is quite rocky and the second half of the trail has a lot of rock that I think was sandstone (sorry, I'm not a geologist!) and I found I needed to be extra careful with my steps on the way down. This would be a treacherous hike if it was rainy or wet. But overall I felt great during and after the hike and am going back in a few weeks with some friends. Good times!
