A friend and I attempted this hike in early August, but didn't read the sign that said the trail was across the road. So I returned alone to hike it solo on a fall Saturday, arriving at about 9am. It was a beautiful day, with temperatures in the 50s to start, and climbing to the 70s.
Some have compared this hike to Angel's Landing at Zion National Park, and I'd have to agree. Thank goodness it's not as popular! It's also a bit like Camelback, but again, much less traveled and touristy. There are boulder climbs and sheer inclines. Wear shoes with good tread.
Keep your eyes on the trail as you climb up and down. The trail is marked with painted white diamonds. Starting out, veer to the right once you get to the rocks. Watch out for Prickly Pear cacti.
Enjoy the views! When you reach the end of the trail, you'll see a sign that says, “END.”
I'd definitely hike this peak again on a cool day in October. It took a little less than 4 hours to hike round-trip.
