Record highs of 118 degrees in Palm Springs that weekend – we definitely thought we were making the biggest mistake of our lives to try to hike this peak. But since we were crunched for time on trying to finish this peak and get training for Mt. Whitney, we had to keep our plans. We spent a good part of the morning trying to make sure we had everything as we planned on staying overnight in the campgrounds. Surprisingly for us, we found ourselves in a nice, cool 76 degree hiking temperature the entire time. Made it to the peak by sunset and it was one of the most gorgeous skies we've seen in a while! Hiking back down to the campground was a bit risky as the trail was quite rocky with loose gravel and it really was pitch black.
Even having slept at the campgrounds in the higher elevation, the hike back up to the main trail was still a brutal climb in the morning. Finally finished and were happy to grab drinks at the bar at the Tramway Station. 🙂
