Perfect cool weather on the hike, and no ice or snow on trail whatsoever. Ground was dry with small exceptions near water crossings, which were all manageable and didn’t necessitate removing your boots to wade across. There are downed trees obstructing the trail at times, but they are easy enough to navigate around.
The host at surtevant camp had coffee and hot cocoa (donations accepted) on the way in, which was an unexpected treat. After camp, it’s 3 miles of incline that you’ll definitely feel in your glutes and legs! Summit went from sunny and pleasant to freezing cold in a matter of minutes. Good views while they lasted.
Bathrooms with hot water (so nice) and water bottle fill station at the top were open, but the Cosmic Cafe is still closed. I went through 3L of water and it was a chilly day, if it’s warmer you’ll need more, but I wouldn’t pack it all with you, just anticipate filling up at the top.
A great hike!
